CBSE UGC NET NOV 2017 Eligibility

After lot of delays, finally CBSE announced UGC NET dates that too for November. These delays have come in the backdrop of eligibility change in NET exams.

The revision of UGC NET eligibility for qualification was ordered by Kerala HC. This decision was taken to ensure equal opportunity to candidates.

Earlier it was 15 percent for all reserved categories. Now, for all categories it has been reduced to 6 percent to ensure equal opportunity to general category candidates.

The decision was reached after analyzing 20 years UGC NET exam results. Which revealed that only 5-6 percent general category candidates qualified UGC NET. Meanwhile, other reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC and PwD had a qualifying rate of up to 15 percent.

If decision is executed without formulation of a fair reservation policy, then it would affect all categories. Eventually, pushing merit percentage higher and making it difficult to qualify for majority of candidates.

Nevertheless, Kerala HC has recommended to the formulation of proper policy.

However, CBSE is yet to receive official orders, and then finally execute it. Therefore, the November 2017 eligibility criteria as of now remains the same.

CBSE is going to start UGC NET application process from 1st of August 2017, and last date to application will be 30th of August 2017. No one knows if CBSE will be implementing the Kerala HC verdict to this November 2017 exam.

Most are speculating it won’t be executed as of now, as it will be too early and could create chaos for candidates.

We have to wait and watch for this situation to detangle.
